Web App
"Facts Commando" is a driven web application developed to combat misinformation following the October 7th war in Israel. By delivering accurate and reliable information, this app aims to mitigate the spread of fake news, fostering a more informed and discerning public in conflict-affected regions.
Hamas attack on Israel
On October 7, 2023, Israel faced unparalleled bloodshed, making it the most horrific day in the country's history since the Holocaust. At 6:30 a.m., almost 3,000 missiles were launched, and Hamas forces broke over the Gaza-Israel border. The coordinated attacks on military posts and residential areas resulted in the sad deaths of 1,438 people, including civilians and security personnel, and the kidnapping of around 250 persons, including children.
Research
Survey
A survey was done, which included questions about the product experience, engagement in WhatsApp groups, encountered obstacles,
and demographic information.
The collection of demographic information was strategically aimed at crafting a primary persona. This persona would then guide our design decisions moving forward.
After initial ideas were proposed, we incorporated requirements and feedback from various departments, enhancing the relevance of our data across different areas of the project.
579 participants provided insights on product experience
Key Findings
-
Demographics and Engagement our survey confirmed the user base is primarily over 50 years old, with a higher-than-expected daily posting frequency, debunking our initial belief that posts were less frequent.
-
User Behavior personal preferences were found to heavily influence sharing behaviors, with users less likely to engage with content that doesn't resonate personally or share unfavorable content, aligning closely with our initial assumptions.
Challenge Identified
Awareness Gap a significant insight was the users' limited understanding of their impact on the project's effectiveness, prompting us to prioritize enhancing user awareness in our design strategy.
Strategic Design Response
With feedback from 579 participants, we identified critical areas for improvement, particularly in user experience and interaction with our platform. This led to a comprehensive redesign, focusing on simplifying the onboarding process and streamlining the user flow to reduce errors and enhance navigation efficiency
Empathy Map
To lay the groundwork for identifying "who the average user is" within our product, we meticulously analyzed the survey data. Our goal was to uncover clear patterns that would reveal key characteristics of our users, setting the stage for the development of a central persona.

Pain Points
Given the prevalence of disinformation, verifying content before sharing is vital yet time-consuming. He also struggles emotionally with internet criticism and hate, complicating his mission.
This is Ezra's journey with & without the app:
User Journey
Ezra's "Facts Commando" expertise serves his taxi driver demands by providing accurate information quickly. The app provides Ezra with well-curated, verifiable news about his interests everyday. The software shares content on Facebook groups to maximize his reach. He uploads data and answers with pre-written remarks with a few clicks, save time and effort. Real-time app stats show Ezra the impact of his shares, improving his purpose and fulfillment.
User Flow & Key Features
Upon logging in, Ezra's user flow in "Facts Commando" starts at his personalized dashboard, highlighting his activity and broader community impact. Key features include a profile with detailed usage stats, an educational blog for ongoing learning, a community impact overview to gauge collective influence, and a meme library for engaging content creation.
This efficient design ensures Ezra can quickly navigate, contribute effectively, and stay informed with minimal effort.
The Beginning
The design began swiftly and evolved over time. The app was created quickly in response to the October 7th massacare and the necessity to communicate the tale of this awful crime. After the survey, we learned that the design is not adequately built for our users the senior population; it should be simple, straightforward, and quick to use.
After mapping out the app's functionality and user flow, I created high-fidelity wireframes to refine the design and enhance usability.
